Okay, here, I am going to explain what exactly RPing (Role-Playing) is, explain how we run it around here, and basically just suggest how to RP properly and the rules of RPing.

Introduction

Basically, RPing is writing a story, in which you and your friends all partake in, using your own personal created characters, or sometimes canon characters (We'll get to characters some other time). In an RP session, you can virtually have anything happen, to certain limits that the RP Master sets of course. Many people prefer Video Roleplaying games. RPGs. However, I prefer using text-based RPing to video games, since you can practically have anything whatsoever happen....at all.

The Specifics

Now, specifically, this is a Forum Text-Based RPG. Meaning when you post, it's as if you're writing a story, in which you control what your character does while the others control what THEIR characters do in the story. In other websites that are text-based, they usually have a chatbox in which the people will RP.

CHATBOX RPING VARIANT 1

*Approaches the cave* Well this looks promising *Steps inside*

CHATBOX RPING VARIANT 2

Tharamir approaches the cave and looks it over, "This looks promising" he says optimistically and steps inside.

Forum RPing is essentially the same as Variant 2 there, however in a Forum, when you post what your character does, it's a lot more drawn out and detailed, as if you were writing a book. Ex. below

Tharamir approached the desolate-looking cave, he's heard stories, stories of adventurers entering this particular cave and never returning alive, or if they're lucky, sane. A gentle autumn breeze bit at him as he drew his traveling cloak more tightly around his body, providing just enough warmth to tolerate the chilly wind. "This sure looks promising" he spoke aloud to nobody in particular. He took a few steps forward, nearing the dark entrance to the cave, the dead leaves crackling under his feet noisily. He took one last ominous look behind him at the dying forest, for all he knew, he might never see it again. He took a deep breath and strode in bravely to what may just be his undoing.

At least one paragraph is prefered when posting please.

Sessions

Around here, when you begin an RP session, you start a topic in one of the forums specific to the area in which your RP session starts off. In the "Title of the Topic" area, you write the title of the RP session, followed by somebody specific you planned on having that session with (If there is someone), followed by whether the session is Open (Meaning anybody can jump in) or Closed (Meaning nobody can join anymore)

Ex. "Into The Darkness" (Tharamir) [Open]

If you need to move the topic to another forum due to where the session is currently taking place, then you must post at the end of your post something like: To The Road (Cyrodiil) >>

You will then start a new topic in the forum which the session now takes place in and simply put Part 2 at the end of the Title of the Topic. You will take away the person whom you wished to RP with, simply because you don't need it anymore, and change the Open or Closed to whichever suits your needs.

Ex. "Into The Darkness" Part 2 [Closed]

At the beginning of the first post, you'll say something like, << From Imperial City (Cyrodiil)

Etiquitte

Basically, just a few guidelines on how to be a good little RPer.

PowerPlaying: Powerplaying is controling someone else's character, from saying they walked with you to saying they flinched, or saying that you hit them. When you, say, throw a punch at them and say you hit them, you're implying that the character did nothing and just let you punch them. This is controlling their character, having not allowed the real master of that character time to post their character's reaction.

Godmodding: Godmodding is having your character superpowerful, superstrong, invincible, never having your character get hurt, etc. This is annoying and not fun to RP with. If you're character is all-powerful, it's cliche, annoying, and simply doesn't make your character real or unique. Take a hit once in a while, will ya?

Grammar: Please, for the love of God, check your spelling and grammar when you post. We are very strict on this, we can let a couple typoes slide, but failing to read over your post and not correct your mistakes or grammar is unacceptable.

OCC: OCC stands for Out Of Character, meaning stuff you say that is not part of the story. If you need to say something OCC, then put OCC: at the bottom of your post and then the OCC stuff.

Ex. OCC: Sorry I haven't posted in a while, computer troubles.

Well, I hoped this little guide explained what you needed to know. Another article will contain the guide on how to create your character for this RP.
